Jarvis begins contact practice as shoulder recovery advances
Carolina's forward changed out of his no-contact sweater Thursday, with a return to games still further ahead.
Seth Jarvis practised without a no-contact sweater Thursday, taking another step towards returning to the Carolina Hurricanes after offseason shoulder surgery. It was his first session in a standard jersey this season, the club reported.
Coach Rod Brind'Amour said Carolina was continuing to follow its medical staff's recovery plan. Jarvis is not yet ready to return to games.
"So now it's just a matter of getting comfortable, making sure it's ready to go," Jarvis said of resuming contact.
The 24-year-old said his shoulder had held up well during three weeks of practice, with few movements still causing discomfort. He said adjusting to contact was his next challenge.
Jarvis scored a team-leading 32 goals last season. In his absence, usual linemates Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov have seven and four points respectively through four games. Six of their combined 11 points came on the power play.
Jarvis praised their more direct approach and credited Eric Robinson and William Carrier for their contributions to the line at even strength.
