Islanders host Ducks on Pride Night, minus two forwards
New York hosts Anaheim on Tuesday after injuries to Matias Maccelli and Cal Ritchie created openings in its forward lines.
The New York Islanders return to UBS Arena for Pride Night against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, Oct. 20, with two forwards sidelined and possible season debuts in their lineup. The game starts at 7 p.m. ET and will air on MSGSN.
Matias Maccelli is expected to miss two to four weeks and Cal Ritchie four to six weeks after lower-body injuries in Saturday’s 4-1 win in Toronto, according to the Islanders’ preview.
Mitchell Chaffee, recalled from Hamilton on an emergency basis Monday, and Kyle MacLean could play their first games of the season alongside Casey Cizikas. Kyle Palmieri practised on the top line with Simon Holmstrom and Bo Horvat on Monday; the club said its plans remained subject to Tuesday’s morning skate.
The Islanders have earned points in three straight games, going 2-0-1. They have allowed 17 goals through eight games, the second-lowest total in the NHL and the lowest in the Eastern Conference, according to the club.
Anaheim is playing for the second consecutive night after Monday’s 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers. The Ducks have lost three straight since opening the season 4-1-0. Tuesday is the clubs’ first meeting this season.
