How Florida’s coral Hometown Remix jersey took shape
The Panthers’ new sweater grew from the Viola family’s push for bolder colours, Fanatics designers told ESPN.
Florida’s new Hometown Remix uniform reached its coral colour scheme after the Viola family urged the designers to take more chances, Fanatics creative executive Dom Fillion told ESPN.
The Panthers and the NHL unveiled the sweater Monday. The club describes its palette of coral, yellow and orange as a reflection of a South Florida sunrise, with a reworked version of its former shoulder logo on the chest.
In ESPN’s account of the design process, NHL executive Brian Jennings recalled Teresa Viola asking for a bolder look after Florida’s powder-blue Reverse Retro uniform. He said she and her son John encouraged more vibrant choices.
Fillion told ESPN that Fanatics introduced the new shade as an accent while working towards using it as the main colour. The company also prepared more conservative alternatives, but the family remained committed to the brighter approach.
The distinction between pink and coral became part of the conversation. Panthers president of business operations Michael White told ESPN the shade came from the sunrise; the team’s official announcement also calls it coral.
Florida will wear the uniform against Detroit on Monday at Amerant Bank Arena, the first of 10 home appearances scheduled for the sweater this season.
