The NHL initiative launched Oct. 13 during Frozen Frenzy, with awareness nights planned at all 32 clubs throughout the season.
Hockey Fights Cancer began its 28th season on Oct. 13 during the NHL's Frozen Frenzy schedule. The initiative and the V Foundation for Cancer Research announced a $100,000 investment in cancer research to mark the launch.
The NHL said all 32 clubs will hold awareness nights during the 2026-27 season, with November remaining the campaign's main league-wide celebration month. The program will also feature in national broadcasts in the United States and Canada.
Colorado defenceman Josh Manson and Utah forward Clayton Keller are taking part in a separate Winter Classic fundraising campaign. Both are among the 16 HFC Champions involved in the initiative.
According to the league, the partnership with the V Foundation has supported 42 research grants in 22 NHL markets since the foundation became its North American fundraising partner in 2023. Hockey Fights Cancer raised $9.1 million during 2025-26 and plans to direct more than $4.6 million to research in the United States and Canada.
The league also said its It's Personal campaign will feature fans and cancer survivors during the season, alongside the clubs' local awareness events.
