Gallagher draws on Montreal rebuild as Canucks search for answers
Gallagher says daily habits and professionalism matter as Vancouver works through a difficult start.
Brendan Gallagher is drawing on his experience in Montreal as he helps Vancouver work through its rebuild, he told Sportsnet after Monday’s practice at Rogers Arena.
Gallagher said the Canadiens had an advantage when their reconstruction began because Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield were already in place. In Vancouver, he sees teaching younger teammates how to prepare and handle a full NHL season as part of his role.
The Canucks acquired Gallagher from Montreal in June. General manager Ryan Johnson said at the time that Gallagher’s competitiveness and leadership would help establish standards for younger players.
Sportsnet reported that Gallagher had been scratched three times before contributing an assist in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to Toronto. He remained without a goal through his first 13 games for Vancouver.
Gallagher said the team needed to keep improving and hold itself accountable during a difficult start. Vancouver hosts Anaheim on Tuesday.
