Four Stingrays Head to AHL Camps With Hershey, Bakersfield

Four players under contract with the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays are spending the start of the fall at American Hockey League training camps, the club announced Tuesday.

Defenseman Aidan Hreschuk and forwards Josh Prokop and Ryan Sandelin are with the Hershey Bears, the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals and South Carolina's parent club. Defenseman Luke Prokop is at Bakersfield Condors camp.

Hreschuk, 23, signed with the Stingrays on July 30 and is entering his second pro season. The Long Beach, California native played 61 games for Idaho last season and got into three with the Texas Stars, putting up 21 points (two goals, 19 assists) in the ECHL and an assist in the AHL. He spent four years at Boston College before turning pro.

Josh Prokop agreed to terms with South Carolina on August 13. The Edmonton native began his pro career with seven games in Bakersfield at the end of 2024-25, then spent last season with Herning Blue Fox in Denmark's Metal Ligaen, where he had 36 points in 47 games and won a Danish championship.

Sandelin, from Hermantown, Minnesota, has 34 points in 149 career AHL games between Colorado and Iowa after four seasons at Minnesota State.

Luke Prokop, 24, played 42 games with Bakersfield last season and recorded 11 points. He was a third-round pick of Nashville in 2020.

South Carolina's own camp roster and schedule will be announced later. The Stingrays open the season October 17 at the North Charleston Coliseum against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
