Flames Unveil Farewell Patch for Final Saddledome Season

The Calgary Flames will wear a commemorative patch on their jerseys throughout the 2026-27 season, marking the final year the club will call the Saddledome home, according to Sportsnet's Eric Francis.
The shoulder patch carries the years 1983 and 2027, framing the span of the arena's life as an NHL rink. It reads "the Dome" along with "farewell season" underneath. The Flames have said the patch's shape is meant to echo the banners hanging from the rafters, while its upper border mirrors the building's distinctive saddle-shaped roofline.
The Saddledome opened as the Olympic Saddledome in October 1983 and has hosted the Flames ever since, including the 1988 Winter Olympics and three Stanley Cup Finals. Calgary's new arena, Scotia Place, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2027 ahead of the 2027-28 season.
Commissioner Gary Bettman has spoken to the scale of the upgrade, saying the new building is "twice as large in square footage" as the Saddledome and will have more amenities.
Scotia Place is also set to host six round-robin games and one elimination contest for the World Cup of Hockey in February 2028.
