Dylan Larkin to Miss Start of Red Wings Camp With Upper-Body Injury
Detroit hopes the center can return during the preseason, but interim GM Shawn Horcoff said there is no timetable.
Dylan Larkin will miss the start of Detroit Red Wings training camp because of an upper-body injury sustained during off-ice training earlier this week.
Interim general manager Shawn Horcoff said Wednesday that Larkin will rehab with the team. Detroit hopes he can return during the preseason, but Horcoff did not provide a timetable.
The injury adds another complication to an unsettled offseason for Larkin. He asked to be traded, and the Red Wings announced last week that he would report to camp and would no longer serve as captain.
Horcoff was named interim general manager Tuesday, with Steve Yzerman moving into a senior adviser role. Detroit said Horcoff has full authority over hockey operations, including decisions about Larkin's future.
Larkin, 30, has five seasons remaining on the eight-year, $69.6 million contract he signed in 2023. The deal includes a no-trade clause. He has played his entire NHL career with Detroit after the club selected him 15th overall in the 2014 draft.
The Red Wings' first on-ice training camp sessions are scheduled for Thursday.
