Dumoulin Cleared, Kempe Tries Center on Kings Camp Day 2

Brian Dumoulin was back on the ice for the Kings on Day 2 of training camp, a day after a physical that did not clear sent him off property for more testing.

"Through all the physicals and testing stuff, we do a lot of tests to make sure everything's good and in the past, a couple times I've had something come up, but never really said anything, but I think this time they just wanted to follow up and get me checked out a little bit more," Dumoulin said. He acknowledged that needing a second opinion is "a little bit" scary, and said he met with someone and everything came back fine. He was reinserted alongside Cody Ceci.

The bigger talking point was up front. Adrian Kempe took reps at center, an idea first floated around the NHL Draft and one Peter Laviolette raised directly with Kempe when he took over as head coach.

"It's training camp. All we're doing right now is just looking at different things," Laviolette said. "He's played there before, we've had conversations and I didn't want to go through all of training camp and not look at it."

Mats Zuccarello did not take part in the Group A session, skating on his own beforehand with assistant coach Derik Johnston. Laviolette said that was the plan for the day and the team would reassess after practice. Kevin Fiala also remains out.

On the back end, Laviolette kept Erik Gustafsson with Scott Perunovich and cautioned that nothing is settled: "I can't say that it's sharpie marker and it's there for the year."

Artemi Panarin, who posted his best offensive seasons under Laviolette in New York, said through an interpreter that he is "very happy" with his coach's aggressive, attack-oriented approach.
