Ducks Set January Date to Retire Ryan Getzlaf's No. 15
Anaheim will honor its all-time leading scorer and longest-serving captain with a jersey retirement ceremony on Jan. 30.
The Anaheim Ducks will retire Ryan Getzlaf's No. 15 during a ceremony on Jan. 30, the club announced Tuesday.
Owners Henry and Susan Samueli made the announcement honoring Getzlaf, who retired in April 2022 after spending his entire 17-year NHL career with Anaheim. He is the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 1,019 points in a franchise-record 1,157 games, and he also holds the team records for career assists and playoff points. Getzlaf served as captain for his final 12 seasons, the longest tenure in franchise history.
A native of Saskatchewan, Getzlaf won the Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007 and captured Olympic gold with Canada in 2010 and 2014, finishing as runner up for the Hart Trophy in that second Olympic year.
"Ryan Getzlaf's impact on the Ducks will be felt for generations to come," the Samuelis said in a statement, adding that his number will hang alongside those of Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya and Scott Niedermayer at Honda Center. Getzlaf's No. 15 will be just the fourth number retired by the organization.
"My family and I are so grateful to the Samuelis and the Ducks organization for this incredible honor," Getzlaf said in a statement, thanking his former teammates, coaches and support staff.
The Ducks will host the Nashville Predators on the night of the retirement ceremony. Two days prior, Anaheim will hold a 20-year reunion celebration for its 2007 Stanley Cup championship team during a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Getzlaf and Corey Perry, both first-round picks by Anaheim in 2003, were young forwards on that title team; Perry, now 41, is preparing to begin his 22nd NHL season with the Los Angeles Kings.
