Ducks Set January Date to Retire Ryan Getzlaf's No. 15
Anaheim will honour its all-time leading scorer and longest-serving captain with a jersey retirement ceremony on Jan. 30.
The Anaheim Ducks will retire Ryan Getzlaf's No. 15 during a ceremony on Jan. 30, the club announced Tuesday.
Owners Henry and Susan Samueli made the announcement honouring Getzlaf, who retired in April 2022 after spending his entire 17-year NHL career with Anaheim. He is the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 1,019 points in a franchise-record 1,157 games, and he also holds the team records for career assists and playoff points. Getzlaf wore the captain's C for his last 12 seasons, longer than anyone in club history.
A native of Saskatchewan, Getzlaf won the Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007 and captured Olympic gold with Canada in 2010 and 2014, finishing as runner up for the Hart Trophy in that second Olympic year.
"Ryan Getzlaf's impact on the Ducks will be felt for generations to come," the Samuelis said in a statement. At Honda Center, his number will hang next to the retired numbers of Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya and Scott Niedermayer. Getzlaf's No. 15 will be just the fourth number retired by the organization.
"My family and I are so grateful to the Samuelis and the Ducks organization for this incredible honor," Getzlaf said in a statement, thanking his former teammates, coaches and support staff.
Nashville will be the opponent on the night of the ceremony. Two nights earlier, against the Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim will mark the 20th anniversary of its 2007 Stanley Cup team with a reunion. Getzlaf and Corey Perry, both Anaheim first-round picks in 2003, were young forwards on that championship roster. Perry, 41, is about to start his 22nd NHL season, now with the Los Angeles Kings.
