Drew Doughty scored a goal and added two assists as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers 6-3 at Madison Square Garden on Monday, Oct. 26. Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves for Los Angeles.

Taylor Ward and Brandt Clarke scored before Doughty’s first goal of the season gave the Kings a 3-1 lead at the first intermission. Artemi Panarin and Mikey Anderson extended the advantage in the second period. Los Angeles also had a goal overturned on a coach’s challenge; the NHL ruled that Clarke had pushed Garand’s glove, which was covering the puck, into the net. Joel Edmundson later scored into an empty net.

James Reimer allowed three goals on eight shots in 20 minutes during his Rangers debut, a start Sportsnet reported was meant to ease Dylan Garand’s workload. Garand replaced him for the second period and finished with 15 saves. J.T. Miller, Adam Fox and Tye Kartye scored for New York.

The Kings improved to 3-1-0 on their five-game trip, which ends in Chicago on Tuesday. New York lost its third consecutive game and suffered its first home defeat of the season.
