Mitchell Chaffee marked his New York Islanders debut with a fight against A.J. Greer and the team’s hardest worker helmet after Tuesday’s 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks at UBS Arena.

Chaffee fought Greer during the second period. He finished with one hit and 9:13 of ice time, according to the Islanders and NHL.com.

Chaffee skated with Kyle MacLean and Casey Cizikas on the fourth line. Coach Pete DeBoer praised the group’s energy and physical play. “I didn’t have to hide them,” he said in the Islanders’ postgame report.

Chaffee said he and MacLean aim to bring that physical approach. “I think that’s part of our games and our identity,” he said. “I thought as the game went on, we got better.”

Recalled on Monday, Chaffee arrived with four goals and two assists in six games for the AHL’s Hamilton Hammers this season. He had played 108 NHL games with Minnesota and Tampa Bay before his first appearance for New York.
