Islanders build first-period lead and hold off Ducks 3-2
Three New York goals in the opening period proved enough as Anaheim fell to its fourth consecutive loss.
The New York Islanders scored all three of their goals in the first period and beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 at UBS Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The win extended New York's run of games with at least a point to four.
Ondrej Palat opened the scoring at 13:39, and Victor Eklund added a second goal at 16:28. Frank Vatrano answered for Anaheim before Simon Holmstrom converted a power-play opportunity at 18:44 to send the Islanders into the intermission ahead 3-1.
Alex Killorn scored with 2:40 left in the third period after Anaheim removed its goaltender for an extra attacker. The Ducks could not find an equaliser and lost for the fourth game in a row.
Ilya Sorokin finished with 15 saves for New York. Lukas Dostal stopped 22 shots for Anaheim.
