Blues lock up McMichael with six-year, $40.5M extension
St. Louis signs the 25-year-old forward to a deal carrying a $6.75 million cap hit through 2032.
The St. Louis Blues signed forward Connor McMichael to a six-year contract worth $40.5 million on July 16, locking up the recently acquired center through the 2031-32 season. The deal carries an annual cap hit of $6.75 million.
McMichael came to St. Louis last month in the June 23 trade that sent Jordan Kyrou to Washington. The Blues also received prospect Milton Gastrin and the 16th overall pick in the 2026 draft as part of the return.
The 25-year-old from Ajax, Ontario, is coming off a 46-point season with the Capitals, posting 14 goals and a career-high 32 assists in 78 games. The Capitals selected him 25th overall in the 2019 draft.
The extension more than triples McMichael's previous salary. He earned $2.1 million in each of the past two seasons under a deal signed in July 2024.
General manager Alex Steen, who took over from Doug Armstrong on July 1, announced the signing. It represents one of Steen's first major moves in his new role, securing a young forward who figures to be part of the Blues' core for the next half-decade.
McMichael has appeared in 18 career playoff games, recording five goals and three assists. He made his NHL debut in 2021 after spending time developing in the Capitals' system.
