Arniel says job security is beyond his control as Jets skid reaches nine
Winnipeg's coach called for better execution, while captain Adam Lowry warned continued losses could lead to changes.
Scott Arniel says preparing the Winnipeg Jets remains his focus rather than worrying about whether he will keep his job. Winnipeg lost 7-0 at Carolina on Sunday, extending its winless streak to nine games.
Arniel told NHL.com that his job security was beyond his control. He said he and his coaching staff must keep preparing the team, but players also bear responsibility for what happens after the puck drops.
Winnipeg is 4-8-3 overall and has gone 0-7-2 during the slump. Arniel described the defeat as frustrating and embarrassing, pointing to turnovers, lost stick battles and an incident in which a player knocked over his own goalie. He called for stronger defending, competition and execution.
Captain Adam Lowry said more losses could bring changes. He argued that a game plan cannot succeed unless players complete passes and carry out the details, and said Winnipeg has not sustained its play for a full game.
The Jets finish their four-game road trip in Montreal on Tuesday.
