Alex Ovechkin Day to Day With Lower-Body Injury
Washington listed its captain as day to day before Monday’s preseason game against Philadelphia.
Alex Ovechkin is day to day with a lower-body injury, the Washington Capitals announced Monday, according to Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network.
Ovechkin was scheduled to miss Washington's second preseason game, against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday. The Capitals have two more exhibition games before opening the regular season Oct. 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The 41-year-old played all 82 games last season and recorded 32 goals and 32 assists. Washington re-signed him in July to a one-year contract with a $1 million salary, a $3.25 million signing bonus and a $4.75 million games-played bonus tied to appearing in 10 games. The contract carries a $4.25 million average annual value.
