Varlamov ends long wait for NHL victory in Islanders’ shootout win
Semyon Varlamov stopped 20 shots in Nashville for his first NHL win since November 2024.
Semyon Varlamov returned to the NHL win column on Tuesday, Oct. 27, helping the New York Islanders defeat Nashville 4-3 in a shootout. His previous league victory had come on Nov. 14, 2024.
The Islanders goaltender made 20 saves and stopped both Nashville shootout attempts. Kyle Palmieri and Bo Horvat converted at the other end to finish the win.
Varlamov’s return followed partial replacements of both knees, NHL.com reported. His first three starts back in the league this season had produced one regulation loss and two overtime losses.
Before returning to the NHL, he appeared twice for Bridgeport in the AHL late last season. NHL.com reported that he won both games and conceded three goals combined.
New York had led 3-0 before the Predators rallied. Filip Forsberg, Alexander Kerfoot and Ryan O’Reilly scored for Nashville.
