Stastney to wait for Penguins debut after joining morning skate
Dan Muse wants the newly acquired defenceman to settle in before playing for Pittsburgh.
Spencer Stastney joined Pittsburgh’s morning skate in Columbus on Friday but will wait to make his Penguins debut.
Coach Dan Muse said the defenceman would sit out against the Blue Jackets while learning the new group’s approach. Stastney arrived in Columbus the previous evening after Edmonton traded him to Pittsburgh for Filip Hallander.
Muse said the staff had given Stastney a few things to watch for while allowing him time to adjust. “You don’t want to overwhelm anybody with too much, too soon,” he said.
The left-shot defenceman has experience playing on either side. Muse praised his skating and his ability to read plays on breakouts and in transition.
Stastney also reunites with Tommy Novak, a former teammate in Nashville’s organisation. Novak welcomed the chance to play alongside him again.
