Sirens Practice, Frost Clinic Pack Colorado Rink Before Takeover Tour Game

The line started upstairs, past the birthday parties and the bumper cars. Girls in hockey jerseys, sticks and pucks in hand, waited for a chance at an autograph from a professional women's team that had come to a city without one.

The New York Sirens held an open practice at Family Sports Center in Centennial on March 14, 2026, the day before the PWHL's Takeover Tour game against the Minnesota Frost at Ball Arena. Minnesota won that game 4-3.

The first 50 fans in attendance got wristbands for postpractice signatures. The stands over the sheet the Colorado Avalanche normally use filled up, and players tossed pucks into the crowd between drills.

"It was great to see the stands filled for practice," Sirens defender Jaime Bourbonnais said. "A lot of people are really excited that we're here, you can tell."

Bourbonnais said the value of playing in a market without a PWHL club is what the kids in the building take from it.

"I didn't have that growing up. I didn't have a league to watch," she said. "I want to be a good role model for young girls and show them that this is what they can do one day in the future."

Sirens forward Kristin O'Neill made a similar case for getting kids in the seats. "Watching (women's hockey) in your own city can be a monumental moment for these young girls and their career path in hockey," she said.

Later that afternoon, Frost players ran a clinic with local girls teams, starting with skating drills before splitting the group into five stations. Among them was Arvada native Peyton Anderson, a rookie forward who scored her first professional goal on March 13.

"It was super cool to see how big girls' hockey is here now," Anderson said. "When I was younger, I feel like we didn't have that many girls out there playing."

Frost defender Madison Bizal worked the stations alongside her. Bizal said she enjoyed skating with the girls and praised their energy and enthusiasm.
