Sharks Prospect Cam Lund Exits Rookie Faceoff With Injury
Lund was hurt in the first period of the Sept. 12 Rookie Faceoff game against the Kings, briefly returned, then missed the rest of the game.
San Jose Sharks prospect Cam Lund was injured in the first period of the Sept. 12 Rookie Faceoff game against the Los Angeles Kings after taking a hit from Jared Woolley of the Kings. He returned for one more shift but did not play in the second or third periods.
Broadcaster Nick Nollenberger reported during the game that Lund was done for the night. Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now noted that Lund's reaction after the hit suggested an upper-body issue.
John McCarthy said after the game that Lund would be re-evaluated on Sept. 13 and that more information on his status would follow, per Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News.
The timing is the part that stings. An upper-body injury that needed surgery ended Lund's 2025-26 season early. Before that, he had nine goals and 26 points in 37 games as an AHL rookie with the San Jose Barracuda.
McCarthy's postgame remarks did not establish the injury's severity.
