Sergei Murashov Cracks Top 10 NHL Goalie Prospect Rankings
Pittsburgh's 22-year-old netminder earned the No. 10 spot on The Athletic's list after a strong AHL season.
Sergei Murashov landed at No. 10 on Scott Wheeler's top 20 NHL-drafted goalie prospect rankings for The Athletic, recognition that reflects his development with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this past season.
The 22-year-old posted a 23-8-4 record with a .918 save percentage, a 2.24 goals-against average, and three shutouts in 36 AHL games, according to thehockeynews.com. Pittsburgh selected Murashov in the fourth round of the 2022 draft.
Murashov also appeared in five NHL games earlier in the season, going 1-1-2 with an .897 save percentage and a 2.56 goals-against average. He recorded a 21-save shutout against Nashville on Nov. 16, per sports.yahoo.com.
With Stuart Skinner leaving Pittsburgh to sign with Winnipeg, the Penguins have an opening in their goaltending depth chart. Multiple reports suggest the organization believes Murashov could be ready for a full-time NHL role. Sports.yahoo.com noted he is heading into the 2026-27 season as one of the team's top breakout candidates.
Penguins insider Josh Yohe reported that many in the organization view Murashov as NHL-ready and expect him to factor into the team's goaltending plans next season, potentially in tandem with restricted free agent Arturs Silovs.
