Sabres seek stronger starts as four-game road trip opens in Washington
Buffalo opens its four-game trip Saturday after earning eight of its 10 points through multi-goal comebacks.
The Buffalo Sabres begin a four-game road trip against the Washington Capitals on Saturday, Oct. 24, looking to spend less time chasing the score. The game at Capital One Arena starts at 7 p.m. ET.
Buffalo enters at 4-4-2. According to the club’s preview, multi-goal comebacks have produced eight of its 10 points, and the Sabres have been ahead for only 60 minutes across their first 10 games. Coach Lindy Ruff wants his team to focus on winning individual periods, starting with the first.
The Sabres lost 3-1 to Philadelphia in their previous game. Field Level Media reported that Buffalo outshot the Flyers 16-9 in the opening period but trailed 2-0, then generated just 12 shots over the remaining two periods.
Jiri Kulich will not play after taking a puck to the face at Friday’s practice, the Sabres confirmed Saturday. Coach Lindy Ruff said Kulich was undergoing testing in Buffalo and could join the trip in California if all goes well. The club expects Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to make a fifth consecutive start in goal. Washington enters with a 5-4-0 record.
