Ryan Reaves Retires After 16 NHL Seasons
The 39-year-old forward announced his retirement after 962 regular-season games across seven franchises.
Ryan Reaves announced his retirement Wednesday, ending a 16-season NHL career at age 39 after 962 regular-season games.
Reaves said in an Instagram post that he was drawn to the physical side of sports from a young age and never imagined he would play in the NHL for 16 seasons. He said the accumulated toll from every hit and fight led him to step away, while adding that he expects to remain close to hockey.
He finished with 66 goals, 74 assists and 140 points, along with 1,137 penalty minutes. Reaves played for the St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks.
His most productive offensive season came with Vegas in 2018-19, when he recorded nine goals and 20 points in 80 games. He played 50 games for San Jose last season, scoring three goals and recording 37 penalty minutes.
