McKenna savours playing before family in Vancouver
The Maple Leafs rookie finished his first Western Canada road trip with a win in an arena he visited growing up.
Gavin McKenna ended his first Western Canada road trip with the Toronto Maple Leafs in front of a suite of family and friends at Rogers Arena on Saturday. They wore his No. 92 jersey as Toronto beat Vancouver 4-2, NHL.com reported.
The Whitehorse, Yukon, native had attended Canucks games at the arena growing up. Returning as an NHL player gave the final stop of the trip a personal connection. McKenna told NHL.com that playing before his family and facing Vancouver made the night special.
The first overall pick in the 2026 draft recorded two goals and two assists during the four-game trip. He had scored twice against Seattle on Oct. 28, his first NHL game with two goals. After the Vancouver game, he said he was enjoying the different opponents and styles of play on the road.
