The Detroit Red Wings placed forward John Leonard on waivers Tuesday, according to Sportsnet's report of the league's waiver list. The move opens a possible path back to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins if he clears; no assignment has been confirmed.
Leonard led Grand Rapids with 33 goals and 54 points in 47 regular-season games in 2025-26, according to the Griffins' player profile. He also recorded two goals and two assists in 11 games with Detroit.
The 28-year-old signed a one-year extension with the Red Wings for 2026-27. He was among six Detroit players reported on waivers Tuesday as the club reduced its preseason roster.
