Red Wings Host Hockey Fights Cancer Night Against Flyers Thursday
Detroit teams up with the American Cancer Society and Fifth Third Bank for a night of fundraising and tributes at Little Caesars Arena.
The Detroit Red Wings will host We Are Hockeytown: Hockey Fights Cancer Night on Thursday, Oct. 15, when they face the Philadelphia Flyers in a nationally televised game at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
The club is partnering with the American Cancer Society and Fifth Third Bank to honour those affected by cancer and raise money for research.
Fans entering the arena starting at 6 p.m. can pick up an "I Fight For" card, fill it out and hold it up during a league-wide moment in the first period. They can also personalize stickers for the giant DRW light-up letters on the concourse near the Fifth Third Entry SE. A giant We Are Hockeytown flag will be passed through the crowd before the game.
Autographed lavender jerseys will be auctioned online from Oct. 15 to 22 at DetroitRedWings.com/Auction, with bidding opening at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society and the Detroit Red Wings Foundation.
Specialty pucks will be sold on the concourse, with Fifth Third Bank matching proceeds from the sale.
The team's Hockey Fights Cancer goalie mask will be unveiled Thursday and displayed outside PORTAL 50 during the game. It will be auctioned later.
Michigan native and "Full House" actor Dave Coulier, who is in remission from two types of cancer, will attend with co-star Andrea Barber. They will be Mic'd Up in partnership with the NHL and The V Foundation. Coulier is also scheduled to visit Henry Ford Health's Cancer Pavilion in Detroit on Oct. 19 with select Red Wings alumni.
The Red Wings and Fifth Third are inviting 100 cancer patients, survivors, researchers and supporters. Breast cancer survivor Ciara and her family will be the honourary Puck Drop Captains, and Monica Notaro will sing the national anthem.
