Rangers lose Igor Shesterkin for the season with lower-body injury
New York confirmed the season-ending absence Saturday, with backup Joonas Korpisalo also sidelined.
What's newThe Rangers confirmed Igor Shesterkin will miss the rest of the season with a lower-body injury.
Igor Shesterkin will miss the remainder of the season with a lower-body injury, the New York Rangers announced Saturday, Oct. 10. The goaltender was injured during Friday's 3-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.
At 8:20 of the second period, while Washington was on the power play, Shesterkin appeared to jam his right skate against the post as he scrambled back towards his net. His right leg bent awkwardly as he fell in the crease.
Rangers training staff attended to him on the ice. He needed help leaving the rink and going down the tunnel, without putting weight on his right leg.
Dylan Garand replaced Shesterkin, who had made 13 saves on 14 shots. Garand finished with 11 saves.
The Rangers are also without backup Joonas Korpisalo, who is expected to miss four weeks with a lower-body injury. New York hosts Vancouver on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
