Providence Bruins Sign Cross Hanas to One-Year AHL Deal
The 24-year-old forward joins the AHL's best regular-season team after a career-high 38 points in 56 games with the Texas Stars.
The Providence Bruins signed forward Cross Hanas to a one-year AHL contract, the team announced Friday, Aug. 7.
Hanas, 24, spent last season with the Texas Stars after joining Dallas on a professional tryout at 2025 training camp. He converted that PTO into a standard player contract on Dec. 13, 2025, and finished 2025-26 with 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points in 56 games, a career high. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward also scored three game-winning goals and finished at plus-6.
A second-round pick by Detroit, 55th overall, in 2020, Hanas played three seasons with Grand Rapids before becoming a free agent in the summer of 2025. He recorded 50 points in 146 games over that run, including nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 58 games in 2024-25. In 202 career AHL games between Grand Rapids and Texas, he has 41 goals and 47 assists for 88 points.
Hanas grew up in Highland Village, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He scored his first goal of the season on opening weekend, Oct. 11, against his former Grand Rapids club.
Providence is coming off a 54-win season and the best record in the AHL. The Bruins have undergone significant changes this summer, including the promotion of Trent Whitfield to head coach on July 27 and the departure of general manager Evan Gold, who left the organization Aug. 1. The team has also signed forwards Wyatt Bongiovanni and Nolan Renwick and defensemen Chris Ortiz and Max Wanner to one-year AHL contracts.
Hanas will look to build on his career year in Providence.
