Peterka's overtime goal sinks Jets in season opener

JJ Peterka scored 3:21 into overtime as the Boston Bruins beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 at Canada Life Centre on Friday.

Boston forced the extra period when Elias Lindholm scored with the net empty and 1:38 remaining in regulation. The Bruins had led 2-1 after the first period before Winnipeg went ahead on second-period goals by Kyle Connor and Mario Ferraro.

Dylan DeMelo opened the scoring for Winnipeg at 4:52 of the first period, and Hampus Lindholm replied at 9:23. James Hagens then scored his first NHL goal at 15:20 to give Boston a 2-1 lead. The 19-year-old finished a pass across the crease and said he would give the puck to his parents.

Jeremy Swayman stopped 30 of 33 shots for Boston, while Stuart Skinner made 26 saves on 30 shots in his Jets debut. The Bruins improved to 2-0-0; Winnipeg took an overtime loss in its season opener.
