Penguins Open 2026 Training Camp With 69 Players
Pittsburgh's roster includes 36 forwards, 23 defensemen, seven goaltenders and three injured players as Sidney Crosby begins a franchise-record 22nd season.
The Pittsburgh Penguins invited 69 players to training camp, which opens Thursday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
The roster announced by president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas includes 36 forwards, 23 defensemen, seven goaltenders and three injured players. Twenty-eight players skated in at least one game for Pittsburgh last season. All practices at the facility are free and open to the public.
Sidney Crosby is entering a franchise-record 22nd season with the club, while alternate captains Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang begin their 21st season as a trio. According to the Penguins, no athlete in Pittsburgh sports history has played more seasons for one team than the three veterans.
The newcomers include free-agent additions Andrei Kuzmenko, Declan Carlile and Trevor van Riemsdyk, plus trade acquisitions Nick Robertson and Kaedan Korczak. Goaltender Collin Delia is attending camp on a professional tryout contract.
Pittsburgh's top three selections from the 2026 NHL Draft will attend their first NHL camp after playing in last weekend's prospect tournament: Liam Ruck, selected 22nd overall; Marcus Ruck, selected 39th; and Tomas Galvas, selected 54th. Fellow 2026 pick Matvei Nikonovich, selected 160th, is also on the roster.
The Penguins will split into three groups Thursday, with Group A on the ice at 8:45 a.m., Group B at 11:30 a.m. and Group C at 12:45 p.m. The schedule repeats Friday and Saturday.
Pittsburgh will play four preseason games, beginning Monday against the Buffalo Sabres at PPG Paints Arena. The regular season starts Sept. 30 against the Philadelphia Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
