The Edmonton Oilers have explored trading a defenceman for a forward as injuries thin their available forwards, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Friedman said during Saturday Headlines that Edmonton could use its defensive depth in a lateral move. He described a search for a suitable exchange rather than an urgent push, saying the injured forwards were not expected to be out long-term.

Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jason Dickinson, Matt Savoie and Mattias Janmark are sidelined, according to Sportsnet. The report said Edmonton had brought Josh Samanski and Max Jones into its lineup as it adjusted to those absences.

Friedman did not identify a trade partner or a specific player Edmonton was pursuing. His report describes discussions and possible options; it does not announce a completed deal.
