Darnell Nurse got his first goal as a Shark at the right moment. He scored at 1:03 of overtime Thursday, and San Jose beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 at Enterprise Center.

Nurse took a backdoor pass from Ivar Stenberg and beat Joel Hofer at the nearside left post. He was traded to San Jose from the Edmonton Oilers on July 1.

The Sharks (3-1-0) played a second straight game without captain Macklin Celebrini, who is out with a lower-body injury. Alex Nedeljkovic made 24 saves in his first start of the season. Tyler Toffoli had a goal and an assist, and Collin Graf also scored.

Connor McMichael put St. Louis up 1-0 at 3:52 of the first period, finishing a backdoor tap-in after a give-and-go with Mason McTavish. Toffoli tied it at 8:48 of the second, stuffing in his own rebound at the near post.

Dillon Dube put the Blues ahead 2-1 at 1:39 of the third with a short-handed goal. He kept the puck on a 2-on-1 and beat Nedeljkovic high in the righthand corner.

Graf tied it 2-2 at 6:05. Sam Dickinson's centring effort caromed off Blues defenceman Adam Jiricek into the slot, and Graf's quick shot went into the top left corner.

Hofer made 24 saves for St. Louis (1-2-1), which has lost three straight since opening the season with a 4-0 win against the Dallas Stars. San Jose's other loss this season was a 5-0 defeat at Dallas on Monday.
