Dawson Mercer is expected to make his Winnipeg Jets debut in Sunday’s Heritage Classic against the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium. NHL.com reported that he will begin on a line with Adam Lowry and also work on the penalty kill.

Mercer practised with Winnipeg on Saturday after arriving with goaltender Nico Daws late Friday night. The two came from the New Jersey Devils in the trade for Connor Hellebuyck. Mercer said the outdoor game offered a memorable way to begin with his new club.

The forward had been at Prudential Center when he learned of the move Friday. He packed at home before travelling to Winnipeg with Daws. Saturday’s preparation included video work with the Jets’ assistant coaches.

Daws is likely to be scratched because Winnipeg also has Stuart Skinner and Clay Stevenson available, NHL.com reported. The game begins at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 25.
