McKenna to Live With Tavares in Toronto, Report Says
John Tavares told reporters at the Player Media Tour that the Maple Leafs' No. 1 pick will move in with his family this season.
Gavin McKenna's first pro season will come with a landlord who knows the job.
John Tavares said at the NHL Player Media Tour in Las Vegas that McKenna, Toronto's first overall pick in June's draft, will live with him and his family this season, according to Michael Traikos of The Hockey News.
McKenna is 18 and turning pro after one season at Penn State, where the left winger from Whitehorse put up 15 goals and 51 points in 35 games.
Tavares is entering his 18th NHL season and his ninth with the Maple Leafs. He went No. 1 overall himself in 2009, which makes the arrangement a former first pick housing the newest one.
It is also not new territory for the Tavares household. Traikos reported that Tavares and his wife, Aryne, took in Easton Cowan last year while the forward worked through his first NHL season at age 20.
Toronto opens training camp later this month, with McKenna the most closely watched name in it.
