McKenna to Live With Tavares in Toronto, Report Says
The Maple Leafs' No. 1 pick will live with the Tavares family this season, the veteran centre said at the Player Media Tour.
Gavin McKenna's first pro season will come with a landlord who knows the job.
Speaking at the NHL Player Media Tour in Las Vegas, John Tavares said McKenna, whom Toronto took first overall in June, will stay with him and his family this season, The Hockey News' Michael Traikos reported.
The 18-year-old left winger from Whitehorse turns pro after one season at Penn State, where he had 15 goals and 51 points in 35 games.
This will be Tavares's 18th NHL season and his ninth in Toronto. He went No. 1 overall himself in 2009, which makes the arrangement a former first pick housing the newest one.
It is also not new territory for the Tavares household. Traikos reported that Tavares and his wife, Aryne, took in Easton Cowan last year while the forward worked through his first NHL season at age 20.
