McDavid and Schaefer meet as Oilers visit Islanders on Halloween
Edmonton and New York play the first of their two meetings this season Saturday afternoon, with 11 players listed as injured between them, including Ryan Pulock.
Connor McDavid and Matthew Schaefer will face each other Saturday when the Edmonton Oilers visit the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. The game starts at 2 p.m. ET.
It is the first of two meetings this season between the teams. McDavid was the first pick in the 2015 NHL Draft; Schaefer was selected first in 2025.
McDavid enters with a league-leading 36 points in 13 games, including eight goals and 28 assists. Schaefer has four goals and 10 assists in 13 games for New York, according to the league preview.
Both clubs are short on bodies, with 11 players listed as injured in NHL.com’s game preview. Edmonton’s six include Zach Hyman, who has a neck injury. Frederik Andersen, Devon Levi, Mattias Janmark, Alec Regula and Matt Savoie are listed with undisclosed injuries.
New York’s five are Mathew Barzal (knee), Alexander Romanov (torn right ACL), Ryan Pulock (upper body), Matias Maccelli (lower body) and Calum Ritchie (lower body).
Pulock left after two shifts and 51 seconds in Thursday’s 4-3 overtime win at Minnesota and did not return. Coach Pete DeBoer had no update after the game.
