Mathew Barzal to Miss Two Weeks of Skating After Aggravating Injury
The Islanders said the injury caused inflammation, putting the forward's availability for the Sept. 30 season opener in question.
Mathew Barzal will not skate for the next two weeks after aggravating a previous injury that caused inflammation, the New York Islanders said Wednesday.
The update came one day before the Islanders' first on-ice training camp sessions. The club did not identify the injury or provide a timetable for his return to game action.
New York said Barzal is actively working to regain full health and expects him back in the lineup as soon as possible.
The two-week no-skate window runs to the Islanders' Sept. 30 season opener at Toronto, leaving little time for Barzal to prepare if he is cleared on schedule.
Barzal, 29, led the Islanders with 72 points in 81 games last season. He was limited to 30 games in 2024-25 and recorded 20 points.
