Mason Lohrei Still Drawing Trade Interest From Around NHL

Mason Lohrei's name is back in circulation. In a September 7 report, RG.org said that multiple NHL team sources have Lohrei floating in trade conversations ahead of the 2026-27 season opens Sept. 29, though those sources stressed it is not the Bruins actively shopping him so much as rival teams revisiting earlier talks.

"I keep hearing Mason Lohrei as a guy that's still out there and someone they'd still consider moving," one NHL executive told RG.org.

The math on Boston's blue line is the driver. The Bruins have six left-shot defencemen with NHL experience, and as one executive put it to RG.org, "With their surplus of left-shot D, lots of teams are looking at them and wondering who will be the odd man or men out."

Lohrei, 25, is entering the final year of a two-year, $6.4 million deal that carries a $3.2 million average annual value. A left-shot puck mover on a reasonable number is exactly the profile teams hunting cap relief and blue-line help tend to ask about.

This is not new ground. RG.org reported in January that Lohrei and Boston's first-round pick were in play in the Bruins' pursuit of Rasmus Andersson from Calgary, and that Lohrei remained available after Andersson was traded to Vegas on Jan. 18, through both the trade deadline and the draft.

One source also told RG.org the Bruins are willing to move Henri Jokiharju, 27, who has two years and $6 million remaining on his three-year contract. Meanwhile, general manager Don Sweeney has said 23-year-old Frederic Brunet, a fifth-round pick in 2022 (132nd overall) who put up 12 goals and 24 assists in 65 games with Providence last season, will get every chance to make the roster out of camp.
