Bruins appoint Charlie Jacobs governor, succeeding his father

Boston’s CEO takes the club’s seat on the NHL Board of Governors, effective immediately.

Charlie Jacobs has succeeded his father, Jeremy M. Jacobs, as governor of the Boston Bruins, the club announced Wednesday, Oct. 28. The appointment takes effect immediately.

Charlie will represent Boston on the NHL Board of Governors after serving as the Bruins’ alternate governor for 26 years. Jeremy held the governor’s role for 51 years.

In the team’s announcement, Jeremy described the change as part of the family’s succession plan and said Charlie already leads the club’s daily operations. Charlie said his father would continue to advise him.

Charlie remains CEO of the Bruins and Delaware North. He shares leadership of Delaware North with his brothers, Jerry Jacobs Jr. and Lou Jacobs.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman welcomed the appointment, citing Charlie’s experience as an alternate governor.
