Maple Leafs lose Chris Tanev to upper-body injury against Avalanche
Toronto ruled the defenceman out for the rest of Saturday’s game after he left during the first period.
Chris Tanev’s night ended early against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. Toronto announced an upper-body injury and ruled the defenceman out as the second period began, Sportsnet reported.
Tanev left following a collision in front of Toronto’s net during the first period. Sportsnet reported that he appeared uncomfortable as he skated off; the report did not give a recovery timetable.
Tanev, 36, entered the game with one assist in five appearances this season. Injuries restricted him to 11 games in 2025-26, and he had season-ending core muscle surgery in March.
