New Jersey Devils forward Anthony Mantha received a five-minute boarding major for a hit on Ottawa Senators defenceman Nikolas Matinpalo in the first period of Monday’s game.

The NHL’s play-by-play records the penalty at 10:01. Sportsnet reported that Mantha followed Matinpalo and a loose puck toward the boards at the New Jersey blue line, then pushed him from behind.

Players gathered in a scrum while Matinpalo remained down. He later got up and left the ice through the tunnel. Ottawa subsequently announced that he would miss the rest of the game with an upper-body injury, according to Sportsnet.

Mantha, 32, joined the Devils on a two-year contract in the off-season. He had no points through the club’s first four games.
