Mario Lemieux joined Sidney Crosby and Nick Suzuki for a ceremony before Pittsburgh hosted Montreal at PPG Paints Arena.
Mario Lemieux received a standing ovation at PPG Paints Arena before the Pittsburgh Penguins' home opener against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, Oct. 3. The former Penguins star performed the ceremonial puck drop as Pittsburgh began its 60th anniversary home schedule.
Sidney Crosby and Nick Suzuki joined him at centre ice. Lemieux greeted Penguins players along the bench before the ceremony.
The Canadiens had also visited Pittsburgh for the franchise's first home game in 1967. The puck from that game was used again for Saturday's ceremony, NHL.com reported.
