Kucherov needs four points to pass Stamkos as Lightning scoring leader
With 1,134 points for Tampa Bay, Nikita Kucherov enters Tuesday’s visit to Vegas three shy of matching Steven Stamkos.
Nikita Kucherov can become the Tampa Bay Lightning’s career points leader with four points when they visit the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Three points would bring him level with Steven Stamkos.
Kucherov has accumulated 1,134 regular-season points in 887 games, comprising 404 goals and 730 assists. Stamkos finished his Tampa Bay tenure with 1,137 points in 1,082 games: 555 goals and 582 assists, according to NHL records.
The gap narrowed when Kucherov scored twice against Vancouver on Oct. 17. The Tampa Bay Times reported after that game that he was three points from matching the franchise record.
Tuesday’s game at T-Mobile Arena is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET. NHL.com’s profile ahead of the milestone describes the attention to detail in Kucherov’s training, drawing on recollections from former teammates and coach Jon Cooper.
Tampa Bay selected Kucherov in the second round of the 2011 draft, 58th overall. His scoring rate across his NHL career is 1.28 points per game, compared with Stamkos’s 1.05 during his Lightning career.
