Jimmy Huntington named Barracuda captain for 2026-27

The 27-year-old forward, an alternate last season, becomes the seventh captain in San Jose Barracuda history.

The San Jose Barracuda have named forward Jimmy Huntington their captain for the 2026-27 season, general manager Joe Will announced Friday.

Huntington, 27, wore an alternate's letter in his first season with the club and is entering his eighth professional year. The Laval, Que., native is the seventh captain in franchise history and the first since Jimmy Schuldt wore the "C" in 2024-25.

"Jimmy represents everything we look for in a leader," head coach John McCarthy said. "From the moment he joined our team last year, he became an important part of our group. He's a winner, leads by example and always puts the team first."

Huntington had a career year in 2025-26, putting up 48 points (15 goals, 33 assists) in 71 games. Those were career highs in points, assists, power-play goals (five) and games played. He added two points in two Calder Cup Playoff games, reached his 300th AHL game on March 15 and was named the team's Fan Favorite award winner.

The 6-foot, 200-pound forward has played 315 AHL regular-season games with San Jose, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Hershey, Milwaukee and Syracuse, totalling 165 points. He was part of Hershey's 2024 Calder Cup winner, finishing with 14 points in 20 playoff games.

The Sharks signed him as a free agent on July 1, 2025, and he re-signed on a one-year, two-way contract on May 27, 2026.

The Barracuda open their season Saturday against the San Diego Gulls.
