Jets score three in the third to hand Penguins first loss
Alex Iafallo, Adam Lowry and Cole Perfetti scored within 4:19 as Winnipeg rallied for a 3-2 win in Pittsburgh on Monday.
Three goals in 4:19 turned a 1-0 deficit into a Winnipeg win. The Jets beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 at PPG Paints Arena on Monday, and Pittsburgh took its first loss of the season.
Alex Iafallo, Adam Lowry and Cole Perfetti did the damage in the third period. Iafallo finished with a goal and an assist, and Clay Stevenson made 29 saves for the Jets (2-0-1 through 3 games), who also won 3-2 at Detroit on Sunday.
Pittsburgh got on the board first. After a scoreless opening period, Ben Kindel put the Penguins ahead 1-0 at 9:27 of the second, redirecting a Declan Carlile pass out of the air at the net front. The goal was initially waved off for a high stick, but a review determined Kindel's stick was not above the crossbar.
Iafallo tied it 1-1 at 4:43 of the third. A rebound off an Isak Rosén shot went off the stick of Penguins defenceman Erik Karlsson to Iafallo, who tucked it inside the right post from below the goal line. Lowry made it 2-1 at 7:08 with a backhand on a loose puck in the crease after Iafallo drove to the net.
Carlile answered at 8:53, scoring in a second straight game with a shot from the slot off a Kindel pass to make it 2-2. Carlile had two career NHL goals in 46 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning before this season. Nine seconds later, Perfetti restored the Jets' lead at 9:02 with a one-timer from the high slot, set up by Josh Morrissey. Perfetti has five points (two goals, three assists) in his first three games.
Kindel and Carlile each had a goal and an assist for the Penguins (2-1-0 through 3 games), and Sergei Murashov stopped 30 shots. Pittsburgh had outscored its opponents 13-5 through its first two games.
