What's newMartin St. Louis addressed Montreal's collapse at Wednesday's practice as the Canadiens prepared to host Utah.

Winnipeg erased a four-goal deficit in the closing minutes of regulation before Dylan Samberg scored in overtime for a 5-4 victory in Montreal on Tuesday. The result ended the Jets’ nine-game losing streak.

Tyrel Bauer broke through with 2:39 left in the third period. Morgan Barron followed 42 seconds later, and Kyle Connor scored twice with the goalie pulled to level the score with 33 seconds remaining.

Samberg beat Jacob Fowler at 3:30 of overtime. Stuart Skinner finished with 18 saves for Winnipeg.

Cole Caufield scored twice for Montreal, with Owen Beck and Josh Anderson supplying its other goals. The Canadiens earned one point for the overtime defeat.

NHL EDGE’s review of the game put Winnipeg ahead 36:05 to 23:55 in regulation ice tilt, its measure of territorial momentum. The Jets also took 57.6 percent of the five-on-five shot attempts and finished with a 47-22 advantage in shots on goal.

Fowler stopped all 13 high-danger shots he faced, according to NHL EDGE. Winnipeg instead found success from farther out: all five of its goals came from mid-range areas, including both of Connor’s goals.

At practice Wednesday, Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis described the loss as “embarrassing, unacceptable”, Sportsnet reported. Montreal used a 30-minute session to work on problems from the game while conserving energy ahead of Thursday’s visit from Utah.

St. Louis said recent lapses included structure, faceoff battles and line changes. Fowler also said Montreal needed to improve rather than rely on skill to win.
