Islanders Fans Pick Navy Lighthouse as Third Jersey Concept
The winning design from 80,490 submissions will debut at UBS Arena in 2027-28, the first fan-voted jersey in NHL history.
The New York Islanders ran a bracket-style contest, pulled 80,490 fan submissions, and came out the other side with a winner: the Navy Lighthouse.
The team announced the result on August 20. The concept is a navy blue sweater with a lighthouse as the crest and orange and teal striping along the bottom and sleeves. It beat out a design featuring "Islanders" spelled across the crest in the final round of voting.
No franchise in NHL history has previously let its fanbase help determine the direction of an official on-ice sweater. The Islanders will now work with Fanatics to turn the winning digital submission into a full, league-ready kit. The team said it will also review additional fan submissions from the voting process to refine the final product, with the goal of keeping the integrity of the winning concept intact while meeting all league standards.
The jersey is scheduled to debut at UBS Arena during the 2027-28 season.
The designer behind the winning concept will receive a team-signed version of the new jersey and tickets to its first on-ice game appearance.
"This contest was launched to break down traditional barriers, giving the fans a direct voice in shaping our new look," said Kelly Cheeseman, Islanders president of business operations, in a statement.
