Sunday’s matchup pairs the NHL’s leading defence with an Islanders team ranked third in goals allowed per game.

The New York Islanders take a five-game point streak into Dallas on Sunday for the start of a three-game trip against Western Conference opponents. The Stars have won four straight heading into the 6 p.m. ET game at American Airlines Center.

Dallas leads the NHL with 1.60 goals allowed per game, while New York ranks third at 2.20, according to the Islanders’ official preview. The Islanders have collected three wins and two overtime losses during their point streak.

Both teams last played Thursday. New York recovered from a two-goal deficit before losing 3-2 in overtime to Los Angeles. Dallas beat Winnipeg 3-2 in overtime, with Roope Hintz scoring twice, including the winner.

Ilya Sorokin and Jake Oettinger are the expected starting goaltenders, although neither was confirmed in the Islanders’ preview. Sorokin has a 1.71 goals-against average and .934 save percentage through seven starts. Oettinger has three shutouts and a .939 save percentage.
