John Gibson will start for the Detroit Red Wings against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, Oct. 17, as Detroit seeks a fourth consecutive game with a point. The game begins at 7 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena.

Detroit enters at 2-3-2 after beating Philadelphia 2-1 on Thursday. Saturday ends a three-game homestand; the Red Wings next play at home Oct. 29.

Coach Todd McLellan said in the club’s preview that Detroit’s defensive adjustments have helped, while generating offence and improving the penalty kill remain priorities. Lucas Raymond has four assists and is still seeking his first goal through seven games.

San Jose is 4-3-0 and continues a six-game road trip after winning a shootout in Nashville on Thursday.

Sharks defenceman Darnell Nurse remains a game-time decision after an upper-body injury kept him out Thursday, according to NHL.com’s lineup report. Detroit is expected to dress 11 forwards and seven defencemen.
