Marc Gatcomb broke a late second-period tie as the Vegas Golden Knights won 3-2 against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Jonathan Lekkerimaki had drawn Vancouver level at 17:54 of the second. Gatcomb answered 34 seconds later, putting away the rebound from Braeden Bowman's wraparound attempt to give Vegas the lead for good.
Mitch Marner scored his first goal of the season at 9:01 of the second, and Victor Olofsson added a power-play goal at 14:30. Adin Hill finished with 18 saves as Vegas improved to 2-1-0 through 3 games after losing 4-3 to Anaheim on Friday.
Paul Cotter gave Vancouver the opening lead with a power-play goal at 18:52 of the first period. Kevin Lankinen stopped 25 shots for the Canucks, whose record fell to 2-2-0.
Vancouver was playing on consecutive nights after beating Calgary 4-1 on Saturday.
Vancouver coach Manny Malhotra said the Canucks needed to respond better immediately after a goal, Sportsnet reported. Goaltender Kevin Lankinen said the team was showing signs of progress with its new system but still had room to improve. Centre Max Sasson said stronger starts and fewer penalties would give Vancouver a better chance to win.
