What's newRyan Huska says the waiver decisions were intended to get the attention of Calgary's dressing room.

The Calgary Flames assigned forward Connor Zary and defenceman Brayden Pachal to the Calgary Wranglers on Tuesday, Oct. 6, the NHL club announced.

Earlier Tuesday, Sportsnet reported, citing Elliotte Friedman, that both players had cleared waivers.

Coach Ryan Huska told Sportsnet on Tuesday that the waiver decisions were intended to get the attention of the entire dressing room. He said players should feel uneasy if they were satisfied merely with being in the NHL and were not improving.

Huska said Zary needs to increase his pace and spend less time handling the puck. He wants Zary and Pachal to play regularly with the Wranglers and work towards returning to the NHL. He also pointed to developing players in the organisation as part of the reason Calgary could make the moves.

Zary turned 25 on Sept. 25. He scored 12 goals and added 13 assists in 74 games for Calgary last season. Pachal had one goal and six assists in 39 games.
